The Cresta Run, nestled in the picturesque town of St. Moritz, Switzerland, is a legendary ice track renowned for its thrilling skeleton and toboggan runs. Carved into the natural ice of the valley, this historic course has been captivating daredevils since its inception in the late 19th century. Adventurers from around the globe flock to test their mettle on its most famous and feared twists and turns, hurtling down the icy chute at breakneck speeds. With its rich heritage and adrenaline-pumping excitement, the Cresta Run remains an iconic destination for those seeking the ultimate winter thrill. Women had been allowed to race on equal terms with men until the 1920s, when it was deemed medically dangerous. In more recent decades, they could compete only on a token end-of-season ladies’ day on the lower track, but in 2018 the club decided to let women race the entire course. The St Moritz Tobogganing Club (SMTC) was founded in 1887, 3 years after the creation of the Cresta Run. Although a private members club, it has always had a strong relationship with the town of St Moritz and is big driver of winter tourism to the area. Wallace Sewell were approached by SMTC to design some large bespoke throws for their cosy clubhouse – a place where everyone comes to relax after a day on the slopes. We took inspiration from their famous logo turning it into a repeated graphic using the angular font to evoke mountain peaks and echoed this with choice of colours – crisp alpine white against deep blue. The SMTC brand colours of red and gold were used in the tactile border featuring visible blanket stitches. Woven using a jacquard style for extra depth and warmth, the throws have a paler version on the reverse side. At a massive 160 x 180cm they are made for snuggling into, with more than enough spare for a companion to join!
