Exhibitions

We’ve participated in a variety of exhibitions that celebrate textile artistry and design. From curating a retrospective for our 25th anniversary at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London to showcasing our work at Ruthin Craft Centre, we’ve shared our creative journey. Notably, we reimagined the traditional rebozo for ‘Made in Mexico,’ and worked with Gieves & Hawkes to create a gentleman’s boating jacket using our woollen upholstery fabric for Wallpaper’s ‘Handmade’ exhibition in Milan.

Each exhibition provides an opportunity to share new inspirations, explore our craft, and honour textile pioneers like Anni Albers. We continue to seek out exciting opportunities to present our work in innovative ways.

  • Ruthin Craft Centre - Wall Hanging

In 2010, Wallace Sewell was commissioned to create a wall hanging inspired by the legacy of Anni Albers for the "All Tied Up" exhibition. While the piece does not have a direct aesthetic connection to Albers' work, it reflects her profound influence through technical expertise and an innovative approach to design.

  • Ruthin Craft Centre - Exhibition

In 2015, Ruthin Craft Centre invited Wallace Sewell to present a solo exhibition titled "Colour & Construction." This exhibition highlighted a stunning selection of their woven works, celebrating the creative partnership and mastery of textile design that Wallace Sewell has become renowned for.

Fashion & Textile Museum - Bespoke Wrap

In 2014, Wallace Sewell was invited to create a special piece honouring the traditional South American rebozo for the “Made in Mexico” exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum. This elegant garment, famously worn by Frida Kahlo, has a rich history as both a decorative accessory and a practical item used by women to carry their children.

Wallace Sewell’s piece took the form of a large shawl that beautifully blended the decorative with the utilitarian. The design captured the essence of the rebozo, featuring vibrant colours and intricate patterns that paid homage to its cultural significance. The shawl not only served as a striking statement piece but also reflected the warmth and versatility of the original rebozo.

This tribute highlighted Wallace Sewell’s dedication to craftsmanship and cultural appreciation, making it a standout addition to the “Made in Mexico” exhibition, inviting viewers to explore the intersection of art and utility in textile design.
