AW25 Scarf Launch

AW25 Scarf Launch

September means only one thing for us at Wallace Sewell... it's (finally) Scarf Season!

After all the hard work put in by the team to get everything ready, we are thrilled to be launching our new 2025 scarf collection today and we can't wait for you to see these designs and the beautiful colourways.

This year our inspiration comes from the Italian modernist painter Pasquarosa, whose work is full of surprising still lifes, unusual pairings of objects and a delight in everyday domestic scenes. She became one of the best-known Italian female painters of the interwar years. She painted with a clarity and freshness that caught our eye, using bold colour and confident brushwork to create compositions that feel both playful and refined.

With 43 colourways over 8 styles, we are only able to give you a teaser in this newsletter, so please browse online or pop in to the shop soon to see the full collection on display.

"Having discovered Pasquarosa's work on a gallery trip with a friend, it was a pleasure to share her paintings with the wider team, and use her beautiful and dynamic work as the starting point for the 2025 collection."

Pasquarosa began her life in the artistic communities around Rome as a model. She largely taught herself to paint, and emerged as a distinctive voice in early twentieth century Italian painting. At a time when many artists were moving towards abstraction, she remained committed to depicting objects and interiors, yet infused them with modernity through her fearless use of colour and her inventive sense of balance. Her palette, often aligned with Fauvist intensity, feels strikingly contemporary, reminding us how colour can be both expressive and structural.

In translating her art into woven textiles, we were particularly drawn to the way she balances intricate detail with broad planes of colour. Our new designs pick up on this tension, combining fine pattern with strong blocks that shift and interact as the scarf moves. This years palette reflects her Fauvist spirit, vivid and uplifting, yet always thoughtful in its contrasts.

"We took inspiration from Pasquerosa's beautiful still lives and chromatically intense palettes; her paintings glow with a richness and vibrancy evoking Wallace Sewell’s joy of embracing colour!"

Each scarf in the 2025 collection carries the Italian name of a flower or plant  - Cassia, Lavanda, Edera, Dafne, Violette, Campanula, Rosa and Ortensia. These names echo Pasquarosa’s world, where blooms often punctuate her still lives and domestic scenes.

There is a natural union between her paintings and our weaving - both explore colour, contrast and composition. We are really happy with the resulting collection, and hope you will be too!
